Admission Requirements

Apart from the program curriculum, we have created unique learning opportunities: internships with high-profile companies and corporate training with data analytics tools and business workshops to ensure that our graduates are ready to make an instant impact on the organizations they join.  Therefore, students are expected to have fully prepared to excel themselves towards a challenging and committed journey while submitting their application for this program.  

Applicants to the HKUST MSBA are expected to have the following credentials:

1. A Relevant First Degree

Applicants seeking admission to MSBA program should have obtained a bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution, or an approved equivalent qualification.

2. English Proficiency

Applicants have to fulfill English Language requirements with ONE of the following proficiency attainments:

1. With TOEFL score in minimum 80 (iBT); 550 (pBT) or 60 (Revised paper-delivered test);
2. With IELTS (Academic Module) overall score in minimum 6.5 (and ALL sub-scores in 5.5 or above);
3. First language is English;
4. The bachelor's degree (or equivalent) was awarded from an institution where the medium of instruction was English.

3. GMAT/GRE

Applicants are highly recommended to take the GMAT/GRE test, but it's NOT a compulsory requirement. 

4. Work Experience

For the full-time program, relevant work or business experience will add weight to the application under consideration. For the part-time program, two years of full-time relevant post-qualification work experience is preferred.

5. Programming Proficiency

While not required for admission, students are expected to have basic proficiency in SQL and Python programming prior to entering the program because most of our courses will build on these basic programming proficiency.  Students will find themselves overwhelmed if not properly prepared for that.
