HKUST MSc in Business Analytics Hosts Insightful Talk by Ms. Maryann Tseng on "Embracing an AI-Driven Future"
On November 2, 2024, the HKUST MSc in Business Analytics program had the privilege of hosting an Enrichment Talk by Ms. Maryann Tseng, Senior Managing Director of Capital Markets & Investor Relations at SenseTime, as part of our "Women in Tech" enrichment series. Ms. Tseng delivered an engaging talk titled "Embracing an AI-Driven Future," offering students a comprehensive overview of the evolving artificial intelligence (AI) landscape, particularly within the Asia-Pacific region.
Drawing from her extensive experience in investment banking and her current role at SenseTime, Ms. Tseng provided valuable insights into the investment and development of AI technologies. She highlighted the significant investments made by major corporations, such as Microsoft's substantial funding of OpenAI, and discussed the varying profitability timelines of tech companies across different regions. Ms. Tseng emphasized the importance of ethical AI development, underscoring the need for robust regulatory frameworks and global academic collaborations to ensure responsible AI integration into society.
A key focus of the discussion was the challenges faced in AI adoption within the Asia-Pacific market, particularly concerning consumer willingness to pay for AI-driven services. Ms. Tseng addressed the critical role of quick learning and logical thinking in AI-related careers, sharing her experiences with the rigorous recruitment processes at leading tech firms.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, during which students had the opportunity to engage directly with Ms. Tseng and gain deeper insights into the future of AI and its implications for various industries.
