What's Happening

On 12 February 2025, the MSBA Student Committee organized an enriching guest talk featuring Ms Maria Hui, an accomplished industry leader and HKUST alumna. Ms Hui shared her professional journey, from her early career in business analytics to leadership roles spanning consulting, HR, marketing, and technology.

During the session, Ms Hui emphasized the importance of embracing challenges, leveraging data for strategic decision-making, and continuously evolving in one’s career. She encouraged students to think beyond job titles, focus on problem-solving, and use data as an asset rather than a liability.

She shared real-world case studies illustrating how businesses can redefine problems, identify root causes, and drive impactful changes through data analytics. Her insights underscored the significance of developing a strategic mindset, staying adaptable, and proactively seeking opportunities for growth.

Ms Hui also spoke about her experiences transitioning across industries and roles, highlighting the value of foundational knowledge, curiosity, and a willingness to step outside one’s comfort zone. Her message to students was clear: “Never say never”—be prepared, challenge conventional thinking, and take ownership of your career trajectory.

The MSBA community deeply appreciates Ms Hui’s time and the valuable lessons she shared. The session concluded with an engaging discussion, where students had the opportunity to seek career advice and gain deeper insights into industry trends.
